description

Bath County Virginia is a gateway community to the George Washington National Forest.  Nestled in the serene Alleghany Mountains, 89% of its landscape is still covered in mountain forest.  A community of villages, Bath County is a place where you can unwind and reconnect with nature.  Take a gentle journey on the back roads of time to enjoy the scenery. The soothing mineral waters that flow from the natural springs that have attracted visitors for over 200 years, even luminaries like Thomas Jefferson and Mrs. Robert E. Lee. Bath County is an outdoor sportsman’s paradise. You can hike or bike the mountainous terrain, fish in the many lakes and rivers scattered throughout the community. The vast woodlands are filled with white tail deer, wild turkey, black bear and many other game animals.

In addition to the many outdoor activities high culture meets the mountains in Bath County.  At Garth Newel Music Center, settle in for an evening of outstanding music by the resident chamber quartet, or explore the dozens of art, antique and craft galleries.  Find unique dining such as the continental cuisine offered in a restored gristmill in Warm Springs, grab a burger and enjoy alfresco dining, stop at a classic steakhouse in a mountain cabin or enjoy fine dining at the Homestead.
The county is rich in history and there are many period homes and buildings still standing from its early years.  Many of these historic locations are open to visitors.
