Bath County Featured Fishing Sites
Site #1: Lake Moomaw
Description: Lake Moomaw is home to many species of fish including largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, bluegill, catfish, brook trout, brown trout, rainbow trout, pickerel, pike, bream and crappie. Bass must be at least 12 inches long, trout at least 16 inches. Night fishing is permitted if boats are equipped with required lighting. Access Points: At Bolar Flats a wheelchair accessible fishing pier can be accessed from the picnic shelter parking lot. The Lake Moomaw Marina offers a double lane concrete boat ramp accessible year round, water levels permitting. Gas, ice, bait, fishing tackle, limited groceries, camping items, firewood, pontoon boat and boat slip rentals avialable.

Site #2: Douthat Lake
Description: This 50-acre lake is a fee-fishing lake that is stocked with rainbow, brown and brook trout twice a week during the fee season(April - June 15th) and (September 15th - October 31st). A three-mile reach of Wilson Creek is a special trout fishing area for children. In addition to trout, the lake also has very good largemouth bass fishing, sunfish, black crappie and channel catfish. Access Points: Anywhere within the Douthat State Park.

Site #3: Jackson River
Description: The Jackson River offers a very diverse trout fishing opportunity. Special regulations exist on certain stetches of the river so fishermen should obtain a copy of the state fishing regulations. North of Lake Moomaw, the Hidden Valley and Poor Farm stretches of the river offer execellent fishing and stocked trout. The 3 mile stretch between Poor Farm and Muddy Run is very popular with fly fishermen. Access Points: Hidden Valley - From Warm Springs, take SR 39 west for 3 miles, turn right onto McGuffin Rd.- SR 621 and travel 1 mile and turn left on Hidden Valley Rd. Travel 2 miles to enter Hidden Valley. Poor Farm - From Warm Springs, travel north on US 220 for about 9 miles to SR 623. Turn left and take SR 623 southwest about 2 miles to the Poor Farm area. |
