Description: The New River, one of America’s Heritage Rivers, and the second oldest river in the world flows more miles through Grayson County than any other county in Virginia. It also is one of the few rivers that flow north. The New River offers many opportunities for the outdoor adventure including Fishing, Canoeing, Birding, and Boating. The New River and its tributaries offer the chance to catch citation fish of several different species including Small Mouth Bass, Walleye, Muskellunge and Rainbow Trout to mention just a few. There are two dams along the New in Grayson County, one at Mouth of Wilson, the other at Fries.
