Bisset Park

Radford’s premier waterfront park and a mecca for outdoor activities right along the New River in Radford!. Bisset Park offers over 100 acres of playgrounds, tennis courts, soccer and football fields, picnic shelters, a volleyball court, and paved trails reserved just for walkers and joggers. Wade fishing opportunities also abound with the park’s access to the New River. Additionally, Tangent Outfitters operates a satellite store out of Bisset Park, where canoes, kayaks, and inner tubes can be rented and used on the river.

The Riverway Trail, a 3.5 mile paved bikeway/walkway, can also be accessed from Bisset Park, where it continues to the east along the New River and to the south through Wildwood Park. Both the Riverway Trail and the paths in Bisset Park are popular places to view birds, dragon and damselflies, and many other types of wildlife.

Motor Mile Speedway

Motor Mile Speedway has NASCAR sanctioned Late Model Stock Car, Limited Sportsman, Street Stock, and Mod4 racing. The Speedway also features the non-NASCAR sanctioned division U-Car and Mini-Cup races. Races are generally every Saturday night April through October starting at 7:00p.m. The Motor Mile Speedway is racing fun for the whole family! Pit passes are also available. The Motor Mile Dragway is also on the same property.

New River

Flowing 320 miles through North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia, the New River is a true recreation destination for all outdoor lovers. As the only city in Virginia located directly on the river, Radford offers unparalleled access to the water at a number of different sites.

Boat launches are available just off exit 105, at Riverview Park, Dudley’s Landing, and near Radford University. Canoes, kayaks and inner tubes can also be easily dropped in the water at various points in Bisset Park, which extends more than 100 acres right on the banks of the New River.

Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech

From elevated tees, the course wraps along 2 1/2 miles of the majestic New River. Panoramic views are the norm and the passing of an occasional train enhances the beauty of the surroundings.

The Course is also bisected by a 70′ rock cliff, which created the opportunity to build two distinct but complimentary nine-hole loops which start and finish adjacent to the club area. The linear nature of these two nines has allowed 14 of the 18 holes to have views to the river. Eight of these play directly to the river’s edge.

The River Course was renovated by world renowned architect Pete Dye in 2005. It is a daily fee public facility. A complete practice facility with a driving range, large putting green, chipping green, and sand bunkers is also available, as well as a fully stocked Professional Golf Shop and a complete teaching center.

Our unique equine rescue takes in and cares for abused, neglected and surrendered horses, providing food, shelter, training, medical care, and adoption services, while providing a job for the horses and a service for our community.
